The "Carnival of Life" photo series by Jolanta Pawlak documents the diversity of the people of Curacao. Her work captures the ancestral history of the people living on this small Caribbean island and exposes many of society's myths and taboos.
Her models respond to the camera and do not pose impassively. The photos are meant to leave an "after image", something you cannot quite get out of your mind.
She has pursued this visual media creating large art canvasses that command your attention. These works bring together the technological, photographic and artistic worlds utilizing an ink jet printing technique that produces excellent resolution. The photos were shot on 35mm film and digitally converted which allows the image to be printed on a canvas substrate. This process gives the prints a depth of color along with the appearance of continuous tone for an amazing effect.
